Kate Gale, Red Hen Press
Welcome to Late Night Conversation! On this week’s episode, Doug has the pleasure of speaking with novelist/poet/ librettist/Managing Editor of Red Hen Press, Kate Gale. Doug and Kate discuss Red Hen’s editorial vision and far-reaching aesthetics, the literary landscape of Southern California (Yes, it does exist!), combating the Amazon Monster, and what Beetlejuice can teach us about the lives of writers.
“Books are often bought in a place where there is a conversation going on about books. Unfortunately, a lot of that conversation going on about books right now is online…You hear about a book in an online forum, you then can just click over to Amazon and order it. So that intersection of where you can buy a book and when you can buy a book is all happening online…The dominance of Amazon is disturbing.”
