Patricia Lockwood – Motherland Fatherland Homelandsexuals

Late Night Love Affair, hosted by Sarah Marshall and Candace Opper

This month Sarah and Candace discuss Patricia Lockwood’s new poetry collection, Motherland Fatherland Homelandsexuals. Topics of conversation include: what it means to be a popular poet today, Lorrie Moore, forest creatures, All That Jazz, the concept of whimsy, and the role of humor in grief.

There’s this wonderful rhythm and repetition that comes into a lot of these… it’s like trying to shuck a clam. Each line is just sort of repeating the gesture and working and working until it kind of opens and you see something glistening and weird.
