Megan Mayhew Bergman – Almost Famous Women

Late Night Love Affair, hosted by Sarah Marshall and Candace Opper

This month Sarah and Candace discuss Megan Mayhew Bergman’s new short story collection, Almost Famous Women. Topics of conversation include women and aging, Stephen King’s Misery, Gone With the Wind, Fame, Summer Rental, Girl Talk (as in: the game), Six Degrees of Separation, Uma Thurman’s mascara, Philip Glass’s face, Joan Didion’s thinness, Orson Welles’s appetite, Winona Ryder’s pixie-ness, and Vanilla Ice’s propensity to get arrested.

I feel like we’re at the point where it’s sacrilege to say that Beyoncé is a human female. They released pictures of her with acne, that obviously hadn’t been doctored, and people were like ‘Why would you try and insult Beyoncé this way?’ It’s picture of her with human skin.

Candace Opper and Sarah Marshall met in the MFA creative writing program at Portland State. They share a love of slasher films, George C. Scott, conspiracy theory, Stephen King, VCRs, air-popped popcorn, Jurassic Park, and discussing over coffee their obsessions with suicide and serial killers, respectively.
