Jill Meyers & Callie Collins, A Strange Object

Welcome to Late Night Conversation! This week is the meeting of strange objects as Doug, Late Night Library’s strange object, has the pleasure of talking with Jill Meyers and Callie Collins, co-founders and co-directors of A Strange Object, an Austin-based indie press. Doug, Jill, and Callie discuss the origins of A Strange Object, Jill and Callie’s tenure at American Short Fiction, the differences between magazine and book publishing, and A Strange Object’s first book Three Scenarios in Which Hana Sasaki Grows a Tail, Kelly Luce’s exciting debut story collection.

“The way that we are editing these books means that we are putting out fewer books than a lot of people, and we really pride ourselves on an extremely, kind of a minimalist approach…we’re going to put out a few really stellar things rather than several very good things.”
